All about Blackheads
Here are some facts you should know about blackheads:
- Blackheads form on areas of the face where there are more sebaceous (oil) gland around the nose, forehead and chin.
- You can treat blackheads by using an exfoliant or clay mask to clear away the excess oil and dead skin cells that cause them
- If you have oily skin or live in a dry climate, you may be more prone to blackheads than someone who has normal or dry skin.
The do’s & don’ts with blackheads
Do: Use Charcoal
Activated Coconut Charcoal works to detoxify the skin by drawing out bacteria, chemicals, dirt and other micro-particles.
Our Charcoal Adaptogen Mask is packed full of antioxidants to detoxify, brighten and purify problematic skin for GOOD. This is perfect to use as a spot treatment.
Do: Exfoliate regularly
Gently exfoliate the skin to help remove dirt, makeup and dead skin cells.
Do: Rest and de-stress
Getting enough rest and avoiding stress can also help, as stress can trigger sebum production. Exercise can help reduce stress.
Don’t: Removal strips
Removal strips and masks can irritate the skin more than actually soothe the skin.
Don’t Squeeze
I know it's hard! Squeezing blackheads may irritate them further and even cause scarring.
Don’t: Scrubbing
Scrubbing can course further irritation to the skin. Scrubbing removes sebum which causes the sebaceous glands then work harder to replace the sebum. This leads to more blockages and the risk of inflammatory acne.
